Beautiful design, but never really like the idea of making the user print your advertisements.
I agree completely, but I find the single ad to be tastefully minimal. Since the blog targets a specific audience, the ad would also be relevant in print.
That said, I do think the other sidebar content should be hidden.
Ads from The Deck are always attractive, but I agree with Martin that they’re not welcome in a printed copy of a web page. I’m not even sure anything from that right column should be shown at all since it’s fairly useless when printed on paper. At the same time, if we’re being picky, Zeldman’s site looks better printed than 99% of websites out there. I guess we can’t complain too much.
Love the print stylesheet. However I don’t see the point in including form elements on printouts such as Zeldman has done here with including the search input field.
If the ads are offensive to your printed word sensibilities, BIC makes an affordable product that can help: http://www.wite-out.com/.
I think it’s worth noting that Zeldman doesn’t actually have a dedicated print stylesheet on his blog. The main stylesheet is doing souble duty and being served as the print stylesheet via media="all"
@brad, good point and indeed it is worth mentioning. Although what makes a site print fancy is the quality of the printed page itself, rather than the approach used.
If a dedicated print style sheet were place, the aforementioned sidebar items could easily be hidden. Thus resulting in an even better printed page.
